Want to incorporate STEM into your math class? Always wondered what it would be like to work with robots? Well we've got the session for you! Challenge your students with design, mathematics, a real-world problem, and collaboration opportunities that build creativity and mathematical thinking. Participants will be tasked with a make-believe challenge to help South Eastern Virginia solve a major problem... The James River Bridge has collapsed! After the last hurricane, the bridge suffered so much damage from erosion and wind that it failed and we need to design, build and test a new, temporary bridge that will be safe for travelers until the more permanent bridge can be built, which will take at least 3 years to build! Participants will work by adopting roles within each team and collaborate to create a model of their bridge that will be tested by coding a Lego EV3 robot to cross their bridge safely.
